# Hardware Setup
The J1939 logger is built around the **STM32F405RGT6** development board; other F4 series STM32 that have two CAN peripherals and SDIO 4-bit will also work, but you will need to regenerate the code from STM32CubeMX: the custom code is inside comment blocks that CubeMX knows to not change.
For the STM32 devboard I suggest using the one by WeAct that uses the STM32F405RGT6.
## Required components
| Component | Purpose |
|--------------------|-----------------------------------------|
| STM32F405RGT6 (WeAct devboard) | Main processor |
| TJA1050 High Speed CAN transcievers | CAN level shifter |
| LEDs (x3) | Visual activity indicators |
| Perfboard | To mount components |
| AWG26 wires | To connect components |
A useful gadget is the **ST-Link**, to flash the firmware easily on the board (and to un-brick it, if it happens)
## Pin mapping
| Function | Pin |
|-------------------|---------------|
| CAN1 TX/RX | PB9 / PB8 |
| CAN2 TX/RX | PB13 / PB12 |
| SDIO D0–D3, CMD, CK | PC8–PC11, PD2, PC12 |
| CAN1 activity LED | PB4 |
| CAN2 activity LED | PB5 |
| Error LED | PB3 |
## Note
Do not add 120Ω resistance! Being it a logger that just reads from a Deutch port, it does not need to terminate the circuit! You can get unpredicatble results and damages if you change the resistance of the CAN network on your machine!
All hardware details are fixed in the CubeMX configuration. No changes are needed unless you adapt to a different MCU.
